Water, milk, medicines in short supply as crisis deepens in Sri Lanka | Ground Report

Essential goods are in short supply across shops in Sri Lanka's Colombo.

Sri Lanka’s economic crisis is deepening. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Saturday declared a state of emergency after a day of violent protests outside his residence. As police officials and protesters clashed, Sri Lanka authorities imposed a 36-hour curfew to curb more protests over food, fuel and power shortages.

The inflation in food and fuel prices in particular has affected the common man to a great extent. Local residents from Colombo told India Today that basic cost of living has gone up significantly and even a cup of tea costs somewhere around 100-150 Sri Lankan rupees.
